Netherlands Today News: Government Websites Shutdown, India's Trade Deal and Dolphin Breeding Ban

Netherlands Faces Major Cyber Alert - Government Websites Taken Offline Today, on 22nd October 2026, the Netherlands took a big step for cyber security. Several important government websites, energy companies like TenneT and Stedin, and university networks were taken offline as a precaution. The reason is two critical PHP vulnerabilities named *PHP2Shell (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619)*. The Dutch National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) said attackers could use this flaw to run commands on servers and control almost 70% of websites in the world. PHP has now released the fix - versions 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36. Websites will remain offline until the patch is fully applied. If you are running a WordPress or Blogger custom domain website on PHP, you should update immediately.
Good news for India-Netherlands relations. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is starting his 6-day visit to Germany and Netherlands from *22nd to 27th October 2026*. He is carrying a delegation of 100 top Indian business leaders. In The Hague, he will meet the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate. The main agenda is: 1. Boosting India-Netherlands bilateral trade - Netherlands is already India's 11th largest trading partner. 2. Green energy and clean technology cooperation. 3. New investment opportunities under the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This visit can create new jobs and business opportunities for both countries. ### Netherlands Moves to End Captive Dolphin Breeding In another historic decision, the Dutch government announced it will ban the breeding of dolphins in captivity. The government will impose a breeding ban and phase-out policy for all dolphins in marine parks. This follows the lead of countries like Canada. The decision was welcomed by PETA on 21st October 2026. The Netherlands is now seen as a leader in animal welfare in Europe.
